As we know today we are living in the world of “NETWORKS”.We can say without Internet nothing is possible, we can not go any where, we can not study and there are so many works which are nor possible without network. Now we talk about this important term Network, If we talk about Network them many term comes in mind Like-Internet,website, web-address, server and so many others. But a most Important term, I think which is not known today is “ARPAnet” .
Simply it stands for Advanced Search Project Agency Network, and this is a Historical word without which we can not talk about Networks.ARPANET was a Network which joined four computer of US defense Agency. The formation of this agency was part of the U.S. reaction to the then Soviet Union’s launch of Sputnik in 1957. (ARPA draft, III-6). ARPA was assigned to research how to utilize their investment in computers via Command and Control Research (CCR) . Dr. J.C.R. Licklider was chosen to head this effort. Licklider came to ARPA from Bolt, Beranek and Newman, (BBN) in Cambridge, MA in October 1962. (ARPA draft, III-6) And Atlast in 1969, ARPANET was launched in the world of networking. When it was started there was only four computers to communicate to each other, but after two years there was two-dozzen websites and in 1981 there was 200 wesits for communicating, adn the result of this network, we are seeing today. There are millions of websites for communicating.Today we are hearing a word “INTERNET”. what is this??? Then answer comes out that it is not a special term yet it is the modified form of “ARPANET”. At the end of 1990’s the ARPANET was officially banned. Then now it is known as “INTERNET”. If we talk about the structure or features of ARAPNET then we see-
- ARPANET, was the world’s first operational packet switching network, Packet switching, today the dominant basis for data communications worldwide.
- Common ARPANET lore posits that the computer network was designed to survive a nuclear attack.
